42nd Gathering of Nations returns to Albuquerque (2025)

THE STATE WILL MAKE. AMERICAN INDIAN WEEK IS ONE OF THE BUSIEST TIMES HERE AT THE INDIAN PUEBLO CULTURAL CENTER. IT’S ALSO THE SAME WEEK AS A GATHERING OF NATIONS BRINGING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO NEW MEXICO. THE GATHERING OF NATIONS IS IN ITS 48TH YEAR. 60 TO 100000 PEOPLE ARE GOING TO COME THROUGH THE DOORS THIS WEEKEND, COMING DOWN PRETTY MUCH TO AROUND THE WORLD. AND A LOT OF THOSE PEOPLE ARE FROM OUT OF TOWN. ACCORDING TO GATHERING OF NATIONS ORGANIZERS THAT BRINGS IN MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. THEY ESTIMATE THAT IT’S BETWEEN 24, $28 MILLION, THAT THIS POWERBALL BRINGS INTO THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE. OVER AT THE INDIAN PUEBLO CULTURAL CENTER, THEY ALSO BENEFIT FROM ALL THE TOURISTS. IT’S OUR SECOND LARGEST VISITOR WEEK OF THE YEAR. BEHIND BALLOON FIESTA LAST YEAR, THE CULTURAL CENTER HAD AROUND 5000 VISITORS DURING THEIR AMERICAN INDIAN WEEK. WE’VE ALREADY SEEN A HUGE INCREASE JUST IN THE FIRST THREE DAYS, WITH EVEN MORE PEOPLE EXPECTED THIS YEAR. THE IPCC MUSEUM DIRECTOR SAYS MORE LOCAL ARTISTS WILL BENEFIT. WE’LL ADD AN AVENUE FOR THEM TO REALLY MAKE AN ECONOMIC IMPACT ON LOCALS AND TOURISTS ALIKE WHEN THEY COME HERE. YOU KNOW, THAT’S ONE OF THE THINGS YOU GET TO DO. YOU GET THE EXPOSURE. The annual Gathering of Nations Powwow begins Thursday, April 24, at Expo New Mexico. The festivities officially kick off with the Miss Indian World Traditional Presentations.
