Bruce Springsteen's indifference towards Donald Trump's opinions might surprise you, but for him, it's clear as day: he simply "couldn't care less" what the former president thinks. In a recent conversation with Time Magazine, the renowned musician, best known for his hit "Born in the U.S.A.", opened up about his recent critiques of Trump, particularly during a performance this past May as part of his Land of Hope and Dreams Tour. At that event, Springsteen did not hold back, calling the Trump administration "corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous" and expressing profound concern for the state of America, which he cherishes.
At that time, he passionately stated, "In my home, the America I love—an enduring symbol of hope and liberty for the last 250 years—is now under the control of an administration that profoundly undermines those very ideals." He passionately urged everyone who believes in democracy to raise their voices against authoritarianism, embodying the spirit of freedom and resistance.
In response to Springsteen's fervent words, Trump took to Truth Social to brand the musician as "dumb as a rock" and remarked dismissively that Springsteen, whom he derogatorily described as a "dried out 'prune' of a rocker," should "KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT" until he returns to the country, implying that his opinions are irrelevant until then.
Springsteen didn't shy away from defending his stance. He conveyed to Time, "If I'm going to remain loyal to my beliefs and ideals, I can’t simply overlook the lies that many have chosen to accept. The truth is, Trump does not concern himself with the struggles of the forgotten people; his main priority is protecting the multibillionaires who have supported him since his inauguration day."
Addressing the political climate, he pointed out a staggering reality: "We need to confront the fact that a significant portion of the American populace feels comfortable with his authoritarian-style politics."
When it comes to Trump's opinions of him, Springsteen remains resolute. He stated, "I absolutely couldn’t care less about his viewpoint. He embodies everything that the 25th Amendment and impeachment were designed to address. If Congress had any courage, he’d already be relegated to the annals of history."
Yet, Springsteen does not withhold criticism of the Democratic party. He passionately believes, "There is a fervent need for a viable alternative party or for the Democratic leaders to discover a voice that resonates with the fears and hopes of the majority of this nation." He points out a significant challenge: "The language and approaches they employ to connect with people are falling short."
