Water crisis in Maidstone: Operational issues disrupt water supply
Thousands of residents in Maidstone are facing a challenging weekend due to a water crisis. South East Water (SEW) has announced that operational issues at Southern Water have led to a temporary suspension of water supply in Hollingbourne, Headcorn, and surrounding areas. This has resulted in low pressure or intermittent supply for SEW customers.
The situation is further complicated by the recent burst water mains on SEW's network, which has left thousands without water. Storm Goretti has also impacted water treatment, causing outages and river water quality issues. SEW is working to prevent outages and restore service, but the company expects the issue to persist until January 13th.
Maidstone Borough Council has advised food businesses without running water to close for hygiene reasons. SEW is providing bottled water to priority customers and has set up a water station at Headcorn Aerodrome. However, residents in Tunbridge Wells are also experiencing water supply disruptions, with no expected resolution until Tuesday.
The water crisis has caused inconvenience and frustration for residents, making it difficult to plan daily activities. SEW acknowledges the inconvenience and is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
